A familiar face is returning to the medical staff at The Memorial Hospital at Craig.
Dr. James Summers, an admired obstetrician and gynecologist who worked at TMH at Craig from 2003-08, will join Dr. Scott Ellis in providing regional women’s health services starting Feb. 1.
“It’s wonderful to come home to Northwest Colorado and an honor to be selected to join the exceptional TMH family,” an elated Summers said. “I sincerely look forward to connecting with former and new patients who can benefit from the strong reputation of the hospital’s obstetrics and gynecology services. Craig is a great Western Slope town with wonderful people.”
A clear choice
George Rohrich, TMH chief executive officer, said that although more than 50 physicians expressed interest in the position, Summers was the clear choice. “He brings invaluable clinical care and already knows our community inside and out. Like the rest of our care providers he’s passionate about delivering exceptional health care and service to improve the quality of life for everyone we serve.
Rohrich added, “His deep knowledge of the hospital and enthusiasm about returning is a clear sign TMH at Craig is a solid choice.”
Patient applauds Summers’ patience
Former Summers patient and long-time TMH employee Errica Hume said, “Dr. Summers is extremely patient and thorough. He did everything within his power to make my experience go the way I wanted. His relationship wasn’t just with me but also with my husband. His calm demeanor always made me feel at ease. This community is so fortunate to have a doctor of his caliber returning.”
Taking TMH to new level
Ellis, TMH’s chief of obstetrics and gynecology since 2008, said he’s eager to team with such a respected colleague.
“Dr. Summers offers a glimpse into the future of TMH,” he said. “He’s highly regarded by his patients and has demonstrated his commitment to our success and to the health of the women in this community. I’m incredibly fortunate to partner with Dr. Summers and together take TMH and women’s health in our region to a new level.”
Summers’ return attests to TMH distinction
TMH Board Chairman Don Myers added that, “Jim is a sought-after doctor who most likely can work anywhere in the country. The fact that he chose to return to Craig is proof to me we have an outstanding hospital for patients, physicians and employees. On behalf of the board, we welcome and thank him.”
Summers received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Illinois State University and his medical degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences, one of the Midwest’s leading medical schools. His areas of interest include minimally invasive pelvic surgery, high-risk obstetrics and pelvic floor repair.
